We photograph a variety of different events - some times they are corporate affairs but more often than not, they're social gatherings from weddings and christenings to parties and family get-togethers. This particular family event was in aid of the head of the family who happened to be celebrating her 90th birthday no less! Looking at the photos, you'd never have guessed she's ten years shy of a century!We arrived after lunch and stayed for just over 3 hours. In that time, we were able to take plenty of very natural reportage shots of everyone enjoying themselves in the garden. Every now and again, we took family members to one side to take their individual portrait. So not only did we capture the event itself but hopefully they'll each have something they'll want to hang on the wall as well.
At intimate events like this, it's important not to completely over shadow the occasion and start to dominate proceedings. That's why we always try to be as unobtrusive as possible, not just out of respect for the host but also because we know from experience that that's the best way to get most natural looking photographs!
